The Kiwanis Club of Cary is but one of hundreds of Kiwanis clubs around the globe associated with Kiwanis International.  All of these clubs subscribe to the Objects of Kiwanis:

  • To give primacy to the human and spiritual rather than to the material values of life;
  • To encourage the daily living of the Golden Rule in all human relationships;
  • To promote the adoption and the application of higher social, business, and professional standards;
  • To develop by precept and example, a more intelligent, aggressive, and serviceable citizenship;
  • To welcome the opportunity to form enduring friendships, to render altruistic service, and to build better communities.
  • To cooperate in creating and maintaining that sound public opinion and high idealism which make possible the increase of righteousness, justice, patriotism, and good will.

“Mel” Gantt, Carolinas District Governor 1974-75, said, “The six Kiwanis verbs – Give, Encourage, Promote, Develop, Provide, and Cooperate – as stated in the Objects of Kiwanis International, if studied and used by each Kiwanian in their respective contexts, would assure success in whatever endeavor one might pursue.”

Come to visit us at one of our meetings! Contact a member of the club; see the Officers listed on this web site and contact either the President or the Secretary to make them aware of your interest.

Membership Requirements

To be a member of the Kiwanis Club of Cary, you must be at least 21 years old and interested in giving back to your community, primarily through helping kids become adults.  Although the Cary Kiwanis Club meets weekly, there is no attendance requirement.  Meetings are dinner meetings.  Each member orders off of the regular menu and pays for their own meal.

Each member is expected to participate in the Club’s various service projects, but not all of them.  There is an initial membership fee of $50, but it is customary for the Club to pay this membership fee for each new member.  Monthly dues are currently $11 per month.  Each member is expected to pay this monthly membership fee to the Club.  Part of this monthly fee goes to Kiwanis International, part to the Carolinas District, and the remainder to the Club for its administrative expenses.

The Club’s main fundraiser is operation of the Popcorn Booth each weekend at the State Flea Market at the NC State Fairgrounds in west Raleigh.  Each member is responsible for operation of this booth for a weekend (Saturday and Sunday) periodically.  This responsibility rotates among the active members of the Club, and each member is required to accept this responsibility.  If you have a conflict when your turn comes around, you can easily swap weekends with another member.  You also will have “back-up” responsibility once each rotation period.  This means that if no Key Club help shows up one (or both) days of your given weekend, you will need to go in and help the assigned Kiwanian.  Key Club members volunteer for work at the Popcorn Booth.  This is one way Key Club members earn service hours.  Additionally, their Key Club earns money to help offset various expenses the Key Club may incur throughout the year.  Of course, if even one Key Club member fulfils their work responsibility, the assigned “back-up” Kiwanian will not be required to go in.

Because you will be working with and guiding kids, a background check may be required on each new member.

Membership can be very rewarding because you know that you are guiding the development of tomorrow’s leaders.
